OUR Commitment to Diversity
Diversity and Connecting Communities
Orange County is the sixth largest and one of most diverse counties in the nation. As communication
professionals at OCPRSA, we serve as a driving force for change and fostering open and collaborative
dialogue between communities with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. This is why in
2021 we set out to formalize a strategic diversity, equity and inclusion plan that would provide
educational resources and new connection points for our membership and the OC community.
Why Diversity Matters
In a county as vibrant and diverse as Orange County, it is essential that our profession reflects the
communities we serve at work or where we live. By acknowledging and embracing our differences, we
can better understand our audiences, tailor our communications strategies, and create a positive impact
on society as a whole. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion strengthens the public relations and
communications industry, fostering innovation and driving success for our members.
Our DE&I Action Plan
After conducting a survey of our OCPRSA membership, we’ve established the following priorities for
DE&I.
- Diversifying Our Membership and Partners: We welcome PR and communication professionals
from any background regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, language,
culture, religion, mental and physical ability. By joining or supporting OCPRSA you can help
shape the narrative in Orange County and bring your unique gifts and talents to other members
and the community. - Inclusive Workshops: Join our thought-provoking workshops and seminars that focus on
bringing together voices from across sectors and as well as an annual summit in the fall aimed at
promoting inclusive practices in communications and public relations. - Diversity Resources and Networking Opportunities: We connect our members to a wide
collection of diversity-focused resources, articles, and best practices to expand your knowledge
and understanding.
